Lot 3021 ANTIQUE WINCHESTER MODEL 1894 LEVER ACTION SADDLE

RING CARBINE. Cal. 30 WCF. S# 88911. Bbl. 20". Model 1894 lever action saddle ring carbine mfg. by Winchester in 1897. Top of the bbl. is marked with a mostly legible Winchester address, with the cal. designation and "NICKEL STEEL BARREL/ ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" marked towards the breech. Metal components exhibit a reapplied blue finish overall. Sanded and refinished single band fastened plain wood forearm and straight grip buttstock with steel carbine buttplate. Left side of buttstock is fitted with a U.S. 12th Infantry, Company M brass kepi insignia, with 2 Mexican coins inlaid on the right. Left side of receiver features a contemporary replacement saddle ring stud and ring. Apparent King (patent markings mostly illegible) triple bead front sight with period aftermarket V-notch rear sight. Upper receiver tang has been drilled with an extra hole, likely for a tang sight attachment. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some superficial handling marks, spots of surface oxidation, as well as some light pitting beneath the bluing. Buttplate exhibits patches of mild to moderate oxidation around the peak. Dark bore, exhibiting consistent mild to moderate pitting, while retaining fair to good rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows scattered marks from handling and storage, with a crack present on the left side of the forearm, ahead of the bbl. band. (01-28185/MLW).
